Columbia Police respond to a shooting on Lincoln Drive in Columbia on Monday night. A suspect brandished a gun and shot the victim once in the thigh, police said.

COLUMBIA — A man in his 20s was shot in the thigh during a fight behind public housing at Lincoln Drive and McBaine Avenue, police said.

Columbia police Sgt. Bruce Houston said an altercation between two or more people broke out on the basketball courts behind two of the buildings on Lincoln Drive.

"A gun was brandished, and someone was hit with one round," Houston said.

The victim was taken to University Hospital. No one else was injured.

Houston said detectives will talk to witnesses. He said the specifics of the fight and shooting are unclear.

"We're trying to identify a potential suspect or suspects," Houston said.

Lincoln Drive was temporarily blocked off as police investigated but has been reopened to traffic.
