Mitchell Matthews was Army veteran, served in Iraq

Mitchell "Mitch" Joseph Matthews of Ashland died Wednesday, Feb. 8, 2012. He was 39.

He was born Nov. 10, 1972, in Las Vegas, to Edward and Deborah (Donovan) Matthews.

He married Liza Young on Dec. 2, 2005.

He served in the Army from 2003 to 2010, serving in Iraq.

He worked for the Missouri Department of Corrections as a corrections officer. He was a member of the Warrior Riders.

Mr. Mitchell is survived by his wife, Liza Mitchell; a son, Mitchell Van Matthews of Ashland; a daughter, Sarah Matthews of Kahoka; a stepdaughter, Cylie Woodward of Ashland; his father Edward Matthews of Las Vegas; and a brother, Eddy Matthews of Portland, Ore.

His mother died earlier.

Visitation will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Bach-Yager Funeral Chapel, 1601 N. Garth Ave. Services will follow at 1 p.m. at the same location. Burial will be at Missouri State Veterans Cemetery in Jacksonville.
