COLUMBIA — A man was killed on U.S. 63 on Wednesday afternoon when he drove into the path of a dump truck.

Boone County Fire Protection District Division Chief Gale Blomenkamp said the man apparently was driving a pickup truck across U.S. 63 going west on Calvert Hill Road when he was T-boned by a dump truck driving south on the highway. Calvert Hill Road is near Rocky Fork Lakes Conservation Area about 11 miles north of Columbia.

The driver of the pickup truck was later identified by a Missouri State Highway Patrol report as Stanton Garr, a 55-year-old resident of Rothville.

Traffic in the passing lanes of both southbound and northbound U.S. 63 was temporarily blocked by emergency responders after the 12:30 p.m. accident, Blomenkamp said.
