The Stankowski Outdoor Recreation Complex, or Stankowski Field, was constructed in 1996 and is an extension of the MU Student Recreation Complex. Anyone who uses Stankowski Field must be a current MU student or a member of the MU complex. The entire outdoor complex consists of four sand volleyball courts, three multipurpose playing fields and a three-lane, all-weather track. There is also a small field house where restrooms are available and where equipment can be checked out.

The entire complex cost $4.3 million to construct. Funding came from student fees, Recreational Services, Residential Life, Campus Dining and the University Bookstore.

The complex is named after Anton "Stan" Stankowski, who played quarterback for the Missouri football team and was the Missouri head baseball coach from 1935-36. He also served as the university's intramural director from 1926-1965.

The three-lane, all-weather track is one-third of a mile long and can be used for running or walking. Walkers are to use the inside lanes, while runners should use the outside lanes.

Playing fields

Soccer, football and Frisbee are the activities allowed on the playing fields. The MU Recreation Department reserves the right to terminate any other activities due to safety guidelines.

Field Uses

All MU intramural sports are played through the MU rec complex. All intramural football and soccer games are played on Stankowski Field. Intramural sand volleyball games are played on the courts located at the outdoor complex.  Stankowski Field is also the home to many MU club sports teams.

Field resurfacing

In the summer of 2009, Stankowski Field was resurfaced. Mondo turf with Ecofill Star was used to replace the AstroTurf that was the original surface. The AstroTurf, installed in 1996, was only expected to last about 10 years. In 1998, MU Recreational Services formulated a plan to replace the original turf.  They accumulated money through student recreation activity fees to fully fund the $1.5 million turf replacement project.
