ST. LOUIS — What is believed to be the nation's second-largest Mardi Gras celebration is getting started in St. Louis.

Civic leaders said only New Orleans has a Mardi Gras celebration that tops the one in St. Louis. Most of the activities are in Soulard or downtown.

Highlights include the Mayor's Mardi Gras Ball on Friday night, a party tent in Soulard on Saturday and the Light Up the Night Fat Tuesday Parade on Tuesday.

Drivers are warned that some ramps on interstates 55, 64 and 70 will be closed in the downtown area during the celebration.
