The Missouri softball team started its season with two wins on its opening day on Friday.

In the team's afternoon game, Missouri pitcher Kristin Nottelmann worked herself out of a last-inning jam to hold on for the 3-2 victory over Ball State.

Pitcher Chelsea Thomas threw a two-hit shutout in the nightcap as the Tigers defeated Troy by a score of 4-0.

Missouri will face Eastern Kentucky at 8:30 a.m. and East Tennessee State University at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday as the Quality Inn Classic continues in Troy, Ala.
