Randy Mayes waits in line to take the plunge. It was the first plunge for Mayes who competed as an individual rather than as a member of a team.

COLUMBIA — The Polar Plunge on Saturday afternoon raised money for mid-Missouri Special Olympics. Participants jumped into the chilly waters at Stephens Lake Park for the cause.

Here are pictures shared by teams and spectators from Saturday's festivities.

This story is part of a section of the Missourian called From Readers, which is dedicated to your voices and your stories. We hope you'll consider sharing. Here's how.
