It's the kind of start that should help junior outfielder Dane Opel forget about last season.
Opel went 6-of-12 at the plate against Auburn, including four RBIs and two home runs, to help the Missouri baseball team take 2-of-3 games in its opening series of the season and earn Big 12 Player of the Week honors, announced Monday.
Last year, Opel hit .209 in 35 games, starting 32, with a home run and eight RBIs.
The award is the first for Opel, and the first for a Tiger baseball player since graduated outfielder Jonah Schmidt won the award May 9 of last season.
The Tigers dropped its first game against Auburn before winning the second and third games 4-3 and 6-4, respectively.
The Tigers will travel to San Francisco this weekend to face the San Francisco Dons in a three-game series.
