A look back at memorable Missouri-Kansas men's basketball games

With Missouri's upcoming move to the Southeastern Conference, Saturday's game between the Tigers and the Jayhawks in Lawrence, Kan., could be the last one for quite some time (barring any postseason matchups).

There have been many memorable moments in the rivalry known by some as the "Border War." Here are some video highlights of some of them, including wins, losses and a bench-clearing brawl back in 1961. Some of the highlights we chose ourselves, and some were submitted by readers. If you have one you'd like to add, comment below or email submissions@ColumbiaMissourian.com. Include a link, if you have one.

2009: Missouri 62, Kansas 60. The Tigers rallied from a 14-point deficit at halftime (the score was 30-16) to win by two. Zaire Taylor hit the game-winner with 1.3 seconds remaining. Tom Wright (@tom_wright12 on Twitter) chose this moment as his favorite in the series, as did several other readers.

1997: Missouri 96, Kansas 94, 2OT. Kansas came into Hearnes Center undefeated and ranked No. 1 in the nation. Missouri's Corey Tate hit a jump shot with 5.6 seconds remaining. Adrienne May and Brad Smith (@smithfamily42) chose this as one of their favorite moments in the series.

1990: Missouri 77, Kansas 71. Coming into the game, the schools represented the top two teams in the nation. No. 2 Missouri went into Allen Fieldhouse in Lawrence and beat No. 1 Kansas.

2004: Kansas 84, Missouri 82. This one was a tough game for Missouri fans to swallow. In the last game at Hearnes Center, Kansas' David Padgett made a basket with two seconds remaining to spoil the farewell. Brad Smith said this was his least-favorite moment in the series.

2012: Missouri 74, Kansas 71. This was a top-10 matchup with a lot of pride on the line. It was also Missouri's last Big 12 conference game against Kansas at Mizzou Arena. Down eight points with three minutes left, the Tigers dominated the rest of the game by scoring 11 unanswered points.

1961: Missouri 79, Kansas 76. This game was memorable not for the score (although Missouri did win), but for the late-in-the-game fight between the two teams, which erupted in an infamous bench-clearing brawl.

2006: Missouri 89, Kansas 86, OT. Many Missouri fans have not forgotten the name Christian Moody. With 0.4 seconds left in the game, Kansas' Moody needed to make one free throw to seal it for the Jayhawks. Moody missed both, and the Tigers went on to win in overtime. Brad Smith chose this as one of his favorite moments in the series.
