Columbia College men's basketball claims AMC title

The Columbia College men’s basketball team won 86-58 on Thursday at Hannibal-LaGrange to earn its ninth Amercian Midwest Conference regular season title and the top seed in this season's postseason tournament with a 10-1 record. 

The Cougars, ranked No. 18 in the NAIA at 23-6, forced 10 turnovers in the first half and claimed a 44-27 lead over the Trojans (10-16, 3-8 in the AMC) at the break.

Devin Griffin’s 16 points led six Cougars in double figures. Henrique Medeiros had 14 points and Matt Woodcock, Wendell Crowder and Taylor Evans each finished with 11. Jordan Dressler had 10 points and six rebounds.  

The tournament bracket will be released on Saturday night after all games have been completed.  The Cougars will have a bye in the first round and host the winner of the fourth and fifth seeded teams in the semifinals at 4 p.m. March 3 at the Arena of Southwell Complex.

The Cougars play their final regular season contest at 4 p.m. Saturday when they host Harris-Stowe State.  Before Saturday’s contest, seniors Taylor Evans, Henrique Medeiros and Matt Woodcock will be honored.
