Joining the recently opened facilities in Dubuque, Iowa, and Lansing, Mich., IBM’s center in Columbia is the third facility IBM has opened in the U.S. since 2009.

IBM has service delivery centers in more than 20 countries that specialize in providing information technology services and business process outsourcing capabilities to IBM clients around the world. Services also include maintenance and monitoring of computer hardware and systems to IBM’s business clients in the U.S.

The Columbia IBM center primarily supports U.S. strategic outsourcing clients, provides server systems operations, security services and end user services. The center also provides maintenance and monitoring of computer hardware and software systems while focusing on increasing delivery quality.

The center has achieved Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design certification in order to “go green.” IBM continues to work with the city to incorporate the facility into Columbia’s Sustainable City Program. This program includes building bike paths to connect the facility with downtown Columbia and planting new trees and bushes along and around the site’s location on LeMone Boulevard.

For recruitment, IBM is working with institutions of higher learning in the Columbia region to train potential employees. IBM is additionally looking for opportunities to partner with schools to enhance their curricula to better prepare students for opportunities in the IT industry.
