Lawsuit seeks to delay Missouri Senate candidate filing

JEFFERSON CITY — A western Missouri woman has gone to court to delay the start of candidate filing for the state Senate.
The filing period for state offices is scheduled to open Tuesday and run through March 27. But a new map of Missouri Senate districts, based on the 2010 census, won't be ready until next week at the earliest.
The lawsuit filed Monday in Cole County Circuit Court seeks an order blocking the secretary of state's office from opening candidate filing for the Senate for 15 days or until a final map of the chamber's 34 districts is submitted.
