Joyce M. Carter, July 9, 1934 — Feb. 29, 2012, of Columbia

COLUMBIA — Joyce M. Carter, 77, of Columbia, passed away on Feb. 29, 2012.

Funeral services will be held 3 p.m. on Sunday at Memorial Funeral Home, 1217 Business Loop 70 W. There will be a visitation prior to the service, beginning at 1 p.m. Interment will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery. 

Joyce was born July 9, 1934, in Boone County to Jake and Sarah (Davis) Turner. She married Vernon Carter on March 27, 1951, in Columbia. She worked in the plumbing industry, loved Yahtzee, puzzles, Scrabble, Pitch and baked world-class pecan pies.

Joyce is survived by two sons, Russell (Joyce E.) Carter and Ernie (Kim) Carter; one daughter, Wanda (Donald) Hoffman; two sisters, Dora May (Jim) Fuller and Dorothy Critchfield; 12 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and numerous “adopted” relatives.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two sons, Johnnie and Ronnie Carter, and one brother, Charles Raymond “Bubby” Turner.
