Car accident causes natural gas service interruptions in southwest Columbia

COLUMBIA — Part of southwest Columbia will have interruptions in natural gas services Tuesday because of an early morning car accident. 

A car driving on Forum Boulevard left the right side of the road and hit a main natural gas distribution station at Katy Lane, according to a news release from Columbia Police Department.

Officers responded at 2:53 a.m., and Forum Boulevard was closed for about three hours. 

The city's street division was called to the scene to help. AmerenUE also was on the scene, the release stated. 

The driver of the car, Ahmed Haney, was arrested on suspicion of driving while intoxicated, the release stated. Haney's bond was set at $500.
