Questions raised about Hall of Famous Missourians induction process following Limbaugh nomination

JEFFERSON CITY — Gov. Jay Nixon said he is concerned about the process by which Missouri House speakers select people for induction into the Hall of Famous Missourians.

Nixon's concerns come after House Speaker Steven Tilley commissioned a bust of conservative radio host Rush Limbaugh to be placed among other honorees in the Missouri Capitol. Limbaugh is from Cape Girardeau.

Democrats have been complaining about Tilley's decision. They contend Limbaugh is so controversial that he is not worthy of the honor. On Wednesday, House Democrats asked Nixon's administration to block Limbaugh's bust from appearing in the Capitol.

Nixon spokesman Scott Holste said the governor has asked his administration commissioner to review the selection process.

The inductees are chosen by House speakers, and the busts are financed with private contributions.
