Barbara Hoppe, Sixth Ward City Councilwoman, serves both her own ward and the entire city of Columbia vigorously, thoughtfully, responsively and honestly. She knows her ward with precision and engages actively with her constituents. She also works strongly on behalf of the collective best interests of our city and all its citizens.
Leading the way for Columbia to acquire land for Stephens Lake Park, she has continued to support a variety of crucial intersecting projects and plans to make our city healthy and successful, including IBM locating in Columbia, community policing, a vibrant downtown with notable arts district, affordable housing and an improved transit system, to name only a few.
Editor's note: The Missourian strives to publish differing views and welcomes letters to the editor. Letters should be about 400 words and must be signed. The deadline for submitting letters related to the April 3 election is March 29 to be published in the April 1 edition. Letters should be submitted to opinion editor Elizabeth Conner by email at firstname.lastname@example.org, by mail at 221 S. Eighth St. Columbia, MO 65211 or by fax at 882-5702.
Year-in and year-out demonstrating strong knowledge, commitment and capacity for good listening, she believes in and is committed to job growth, development and planning. And she understands that beneficial long-term growth requires good management combined with active discussion among the business community, citizen groups, MU, the Chamber of Commerce, REDI, individual citizens, nonprofit agencies, city government and the Columbia School Board, etc.
For the same reasons Barbara Hoppe is good for the Sixth Ward, she is good for all Columbia. We need Barbara Hoppe on the council.
Catherine Parke is a Columbia resident.
