COLUMBIA – About five weeks after Punxsutawney Phil’s prediction of six more weeks of winter, a local gardening event will give Columbia residents the opportunity to enjoy spring before it officially arrives on March 20.

The Community Garden Coalition of Columbia and Boone County will host the Spring Thaw Kick-Off from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday. The free event is the annual kick-off for the gardening season.
