Alpha Hart Lewis Elementary School student council members smile and hold up buckets they used to collect money for March of Dimes on Friday. Their goal is to raise $1,000 by the end of the week.

Shelly Nowlin is a fifth-grade teacher and the student council sponsor at Alpha Hart Lewis Elementary School.

The first ever student council at Alpha Hart Lewis is busy raising money for the March of Dimes. We have worked hard all year to raise money to help support our teachers and school, but decided that we would also really like to help out in our community!

The students were very aware of my connection with the March of Dimes as well as all about the team that we are bringing to Columbia this year, and decided they wanted to raise money for the March of Dimes.

The student council came up with the ideas of how to raise money as well as their fundraising goal. They hoped to raise $500 by holding a bake sale along with having a classroom competition called Dime Wars.

With the bake sale complete and one week left in Dime Wars, the AHL Student Council has currently raised $696 for the March of Dimes!

Our new goal is to raise $1,000 by the end of this week! They are an amazing group of kids with some of the biggest hearts I've seen! I feel very lucky to get to lead such a great group of students!
