Missouri junior advances in NCAA Track and Field Championships

Saturday, March 10, 2012 | 12:01 a.m. CST

The NCAA Indoor Track and Field championships began on Friday at Jacksons Indoor Track in Nampa, Idaho.

Missouri sent juniors Malcom Pennix to compete in long jump and Ricky West, the reigning Big 12 champion in the 800-meter run.

West finished second in his heat and seventh overall,  which was good enough to qualify to compete again on Saturday, with a time of 1:49.01.

Pennix did not receive any points in the men’s long jump. He fouled the first two rounds and jumped 7.23 meters (23 feet 8 ¾ inches) in the third. He did not qualify to advance to compete on Saturday.

West will run at 6:30 p.m. on Saturday at the Jackson Indoor Tack.
