LETTER TO THE EDITOR: Mayor McDavid needs to be honest about bus plans

Thursday, March 15, 2012 | 6:00 a.m. CDT

Isn’t it about time Mayor Bob McDavid is challenged on the issues surrounding the new plans for a college transit system in Columbia? Whether it’s by a reporter at this paper or by a citizen who truly wants to be informed, some facts need to be shed on these plans.

Where is the money coming from? Isn’t there a garage sitting at Fifth and Walnut streets that was promised to be a great place to defer drivers downtown? Not to mention that the prices of meters, tickets and bus fares have nearly doubled in the past year.

McDavid needs to answer the hard questions. He is a slick guy, I will give him that. Instead of wasting time fixing a bus system that so many rely on, can’t we stop the excess amount of money going into transportation in this city?

Forget the programs in Lawrence, Kan., and Ames, Iowa; someone needs to fix what is broken here.
