Columbia College softball drops first two games of conference play

The Columbia College softball team dropped their first two American Midwest Conference games of the season in a doubleheader against No. 18-ranked Williams Baptist on Wednesday in Walnut Ridge, Ark.

The Cougars lost the first game 1-0 and the second 6-2, giving them an overall record of 7-9. 

In the first game, Williams Baptist scored its only run in the bottom of the fifth inning. The Cougars loaded the bases in the top of the seventh but grounded into a double play to end the game. 

The Eagles never trailed in the second game after moving ahead 3-0 in the second inning. The Cougars scored both of their runs off two hits in the fifth. 

Jordan Crisp and Taylor Richter were the losing pitchers for the Cougars. 

Columbia College plays next against Missouri Baptist at 2 p.m. Monday in St. Louis.
