LETTER TO THE EDITOR: Incredibly proud of Missouri basketball team

As an out-of-state Mizzou alum now in Big 10 country, I end up having to follow the Tigers mostly through media — sadly, we can usually only get to one football and one basketball game a year. All I can say is that this was the most fun I've had following a Mizzou basketball season, ever — and I've been following them since the '70s.

To anyone who is disparaging our team over the loss Friday, I say this: We shot 53 percent from the field, our season average was 50 percent. We shot 45 percent on 3-point shots, with a season average of 40 percent. We shot 76 percent on free throws, with a season average of 77 percent. Those season averages placed us third in the country for field goal percentage ... and we shot better Friday. We were No. 1 in the Big 12 in field goal percentage, free throw percentage and 3-point percentage with those averages — and we were BETTER than our season average Friday!

We encountered a very good, likely underrated team that played the game of their life, shooting 67 percent in the second half! We made a few mistakes, but no game is ever mistake-free. Most of the teams in the tourney would have lost to Norfolk State on Friday, including Kansas.

I am disappointed, but none of us can be as disappointed as our guys and Coach Haith. They should be very proud of this record-breaking season, and we should congratulate them on their accomplishments. The Kansas game in Columbia was one of the best experiences I've ever had as a sports fan, PERIOD! Thank you Tigers — looking forward to next year! M-I-Z! Faith in Haith!
