BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — The Southeastern Conference has promoted Greg Sankey to executive associate commissioner and chief operating officer.
Sankey, whose promotion was announced Monday, has been associate commissioner since 2002. He has been responsible for compliance, governance and enforcement as well as oversight of the conference championships personnel.
Now, he will be responsible for the day-to-day operations of the SEC office.
SEC Commissioner Mike Slive said Sankey "is extremely talented in all facets of athletics administration and will make even greater contributions to the conference in his expanded role as our chief operating officer."
Sankey was commissioner of the Southland Conference from 1996 to 2002.
He is vice-chair of the NCAA's Division I Legislative Council and is a member of the Committee on Academic Performance and the Division I Committee on Infractions.
