COLUMBIA — The Rock Bridge boys golf team defeated Hickman 156-177 on Tuesday afternoon at Lake of the Woods Golf Course in both teams' season-opening match.

Battling tough wind conditions throughout the entire nine-hole round, Rock Bridge senior Will Echelmeier had the lowest score of the match, shooting a 36.

"At first I didn't know what to expect, but once the wind died down I started to settle in," Echelmeier said. "This is really only a tune-up match considering we are coming up on spring break, but it was still good to get out there."

Matt Garner led the Kewpies with a 41.

Rock Bridge and Hickman both play next on April 3 at the Columbia Classic at A.L. Gustin Golf Course.
