COLUMBIA — More than 60 firefighters and other units rescued a woman from her SUV after it ended up in a creek near her home on U.S. 63.
The woman called 911 at about 12:09 a.m. Wednesday and was rescued from her vehicle by fire and other authorities on a rescue boat at about 3 a.m., Price Nichols, Southern Boone County Fire Protection District public information officer, said.
"As fast as the water was moving, we felt like we needed other people," Nichols said. "It's a low water crossing, and when she tried to cross it, the water shoved (her SUV) off the downhill side of the low water ditch, so she was actually in the creek."
Nichols said the woman was able to walk to the ambulance after being rescued. Her name has not been released.
