LETTER TO THE EDITOR: Barbara Hoppe stays away from attack ads

I would like to commend Councilwoman Barbara Hoppe for taking the high road in this election and not doing sophomoric, sleazy attack ads that turn off voters, particularly in local elections.

I attended our annual Shepard Boulevard Neighborhood Association meeting soon after the attack ads by Bill Tillotson’s campaign began. Since Shepard is a neighborhood in the Sixth Ward, both candidates were invited to speak at our meeting, and the discussion was cordial, but lively, regarding the recent negative ad by Barbara’s opponent.

Mr. Tillotson left before any neighborhood business was discussed. Barbara, however, stayed until the end of the meeting, attentive and helpful, just like she is present at all our neighborhood meetings, picnics and occasionally on morning walks with children and parents to Shepard Elementary School.

You will hardly find a better councilperson than Barbara, who listens and is responsive to constituents. My family is most fortunate to be living in the ward Barbara Hoppe represents, and I encourage voters to take the high road and vote for Ms. Hoppe.
