LETTER TO THE EDITOR: Hoppe represents all Sixth Ward residents

I am fortunate to live in a diverse Sixth Ward neighborhood with a mix of historic homes, student rental units and single family dwellings. My Councilwoman Barbara Hoppe understands and appreciates the balance that diverse neighborhoods like mine require. She has demonstrated throughout her six years of distinguished service that she can bring neighbors, homeowners, students and businesses together to find solutions that benefit everyone.

It is not always easy to maintain the delicate balance of mixed zoned neighborhoods such as mine. While some developers and planners push to homogenize wherever it appears immediately profitable, Barbara Hoppe, as the representative of all of the ward’s residents, understands the importance of reasoned, thoughtful planning that affords necessary growth but also preserves the unique character of our neighborhoods. Barbara is an open-minded, pragmatic facilitator and a truly dedicated public servant who is always willing to work with all parties to find common ground that will keep our neighborhoods vibrant and healthy.

Editor's note: The Missourian strives to publish differing views and welcomes letters to the editor. Read Executive Editor Tom Warhover's column on the Missourian's approach to election letters.

Letters should be about 400 words and must be signed. The deadline for submitting letters related to the April 3 election is Thursday to be published in the Sunday edition. Letters should be submitted to opinion editor Elizabeth Conner by email at, by mail at 221 S. Eighth St. Columbia, MO 65211 or by fax at 882-5702.

On April 3, I will enthusiastically vote to re-elect Barbara Hoppe.
