Friday, April 6, 2012 | 12:49 p.m. CDT

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. — Media reports say a Navy jet crashed in Virginia Beach, and the two aviators aboard are believed to have ejected before the impact.

There are no reports of any injuries on the ground. Photographs from the scene showed black smoke billowing from near some buildings.

The Virginian-Pilot quoted a spokesman for Naval Air Force Atlantic who said the F/A-18 Hornet crashed Friday in the vicinity of Birdneck Road.

A Navy spokesman reached by phone could not immediately comment.
