Missouri's Shara Stafford waves after accepting her gold medal for winning in the women's 200-meter freestyle in 1:44:13 during the Big 12 championship at Mizzou Aquatics Center on Friday. Stafford's time set a record as the sixth best national time.

Missouri senior swimmer Shara Stafford was named Big 12 Newcomer of the Year.

Stafford, a Florida transfer, finished fifth in the 50 free, sixth in the 100 free and was on the seventh-place 200 free relay team at the 2012 NCAA Championships.

Stafford ends her career as a Tiger with the school record in the 50 free, 100 free, 200 free, 100 fly and the 200 individual medley.

Stafford and 2011 Big 12 Diver of the Year Loren Figueroa are the only Tiger student-athletes to earn a postseason Big 12 swimming and diving award.
