JEFFERSON CITY — Several Missouri advocacy groups have held a mock bake sale in the state Capitol to illustrate their call for lawmakers to approve measures to raise more revenue.
Leaders of Tuesday's event outside the House chamber said they collected $32 by midafternoon.
Groups taking part included the Missouri Health Advocacy Alliance, Missouri Jobs With Justice and the Associated Students of the University of Missouri.
Participants said the state's tight budgets in recent years have been harmful to education, social services and health care. Their suggestions for raising more revenue include increasing the tobacco tax and applying Missouri's sales tax to Internet purchases.
