COLUMBIA — Missouri men's assistant basketball coach Isaac Chew is leaving the Tigers to take an assistant coaching job at the University of Illinois.

Chew, who is originally from Chicago, coached at Missouri for one season. Part of the reason Chew was hired to join Frank Haith's staff last spring was because of his familiarity with some of Missouri's players during his time in Kansas City.

Chew graduated from Avila University in Kansas City and later coached Tiger players Marcus Denmon, Michael Dixon and Steve Moore at the Kansas City Pump N' Run program.

Just like last spring, Chew is joining a brand new staff. Illinois recently hired John Groce to replace Bruce Weber as the Fighting Illini head coach. Before taking the job, Groce was the head coach at Ohio University for four seasons.
