Candy Stanley is Bill Hobbs' daughter. She helped host an 80th birthday celebration for her father, and she shared an account of it with the Missourian.
We had a great turnout of around 40 people. Mini cupcakes created the number 80, and punch and coffee were served.
My dad had a great time. It was fun to hear him yell, "Well, son of a gun, I haven't seen you in a while."
He had people from his military days, VA days and several organizations that he belongs to currently. His family, including his wife, Mary, daughter and her husband and his only two granddaughters as well as his son-in-law's family were present as well.
One gentleman read a poem about how being 80 is great. You get a big party every year because people are surprised you are still alive. No one gets mad at you if you are 80 because they are glad you are still around.
This story is part of a section of the Missourian called From Readers, which is dedicated to your voices and your stories. We hope you'll consider sharing. Here's how.
