Assemblies of God lays off 47 headquarter workers

SPRINGFIELD — Forty-seven employees at the Assemblies of God headquarters in Springfield have lost their jobs.

The church's leaders announced the layoffs in a news release Thursday. They say the job cuts are the result of the church changing from print to digital publications. And they say more layoffs are possible.

KY3-TV reports the people losing their jobs operate the printing presses of Gospel Publishing House. It prints Sunday School materials, books and the denomination's weekly magazine.

Church leaders say print orders are down, while the use of online resources continues to grow.

The Assemblies' leaders say people losing their jobs will get severance packages, insurance coverage and help with job hunts.
