Avalene Kruger enjoyed spending time with family, collecting Beanie Babies

COLUMBIA — Avalene (Hogan) Kruger is remembered for her musical ability, impressive Beanie Baby collection and the way she treasured the time she spent with her family.

She died Sunday, April 15, 2012, at Apple Ridge Care Center.

She was born Dec. 21, 1924, in Blackburn to William and Laura (Tieman) Hogan.

On Feb. 1, 1946, she married Louis Kruger in Columbia.

Mrs. Kruger worked at Kruger Plumbing, Heating and Tax Service for 44 years, where she was the nice lady with the beautiful voice that answered the phone. She also worked as a tax preparer for the company.

In her free time, Mrs. Kruger enjoyed attending antique tractor shows, playing the calliope, collecting Beanie Babies and spending time with her family.

Mrs. Kruger is survived by one son, Gregory Kruger; two daughters, Brenda Malin and Linda Kruger; six grandchildren, Laura, Zosia, Nick, Louis, Cole and Lindy; two great-grandchildren, Olivia and Alicia; and one brother, AJ Hogan.

Visitation is at 9 a.m. Thursday at Memorial Funeral Home, 1217 Business Loop 70 W. Services will follow at 10 a.m. Interment will be at 2 p.m. in Blackburn Cemetery.
