Missouri head football coach Gary Pinkel announced in a statement Friday that he has separated from his wife, Vicki.

"I am saddened to say that my wife and I separated at the beginning of this year," Pinkel said in a statement available from the athletics department upon request. "Thank you to family and friends who have shown us support. I would ask that you please respect the privacy of the entire Pinkel family during this difficult time."

Pinkel and his wife met while they were both students at Kent State University and married in 1973, according to a previous Missourian article. They have three children.
