The Columbia College softball team split the first two games of a best-of-three series against Missouri Baptist in the American Midwest Conference quarterfinal round. The Cougars came from behind in the first game to win 2-1; Missouri Baptist won 5-0 in the second game.
The teams will play a deciding game at 2 p.m. Saturday at Antimi Black Field. The winner will face Williams Baptist College, who swept Stephens College in a quarterfinal matchup Friday.
The Cougars were scoreless in their first game until Marli Hayes led off the sixth inning with a double and scored on a two-out single by Kristin Eiken. Later in extra innings, Columbia College's Morgan Bounds and Whitni Howell had back-to-back singles. Bounds advanced to third on a hit batter and scored the winning run on a wild pitch.
The Spartans jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the fourth inning of the second game, and Columbia College couldn't score on any of its six hits.
