WASHINGTON, Mo. — An eastern Missouri doctor has been found dead of an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound on the same day he was scheduled to plead guilty to federal charges of illegally prescribing prescription drugs.

The Washington Missourian reports that 54-year-old Keith Dale Morris was found dead outside his home in Franklin County on Wednesday morning, at just about the same time he was scheduled to enter a guilty plea in U.S. District Court in St. Louis.

Morris was indicted in October and accused of distributing drugs without a legitimate medical purpose between April 2008 and July 2010.
