COLUMBIA — In conjunction with National Music Week, which is May 6 through 13, the ShowMe Music Club, which is the local chapter of the Missouri Federation of Music Clubs, is sponsoring a fundraiser to purchase a Kawai Studio piano for Boys & Girls Town. Donors are being asked to purchase a "piano key” in an effort to bring music to the non-profit organization.

"The children who are cared for in Boys & Girls Town are provided with music therapy, a chance to sing in a choir and other musical experiences all without a piano," said Cara McMillan, a spokesperson for the ShowMe Club. "We felt this was an opportunity for us to help make a difference in our community. Boys & Girls Town provides a loving, nurturing environment for children and youth with emotional and behavioral challenges."

"Keys for Kids" has already sold 40 keys, but has a goal of selling 88, the number of keys on a piano.  For every $60 pledged, donors will have their names written on the top of a key temporarily, but names will also be inscribed inside the piano permanently. The piano is on display at The Music Suite, located at 1906 N. Providence Road.

For more information about the fundraiser, donors are encouraged to stop by the Music Suite or contact Cara McMillan at 446-5544.   The ShowMe Music Club is an organization of 42 music teachers. Each year, the organization holds a music festival in Columbia for students of the teachers. This past March, 438 students participated in the festival.
