Each year, the Mid-Missouri Chapter of the Missouri Restaurant Association awards scholarships to University of Missouri Hospitality Management majors who have shown exceptional promise in working toward a career in the culinary arts.

The highlight of the Association's annual Scholarship Awards Dinner is the awards presentation. This year, following a short address by Todd Hulse, 2012 MRA state president, Kathryn Lodes of St. Louis was awarded a $3,000 scholarship. She was followed by Maggie Behr of Washington, Missouri, winner of the Joyce Walls Memorial Scholarship of $2,000. Scholarships of $2,000 each were also awarded to Jessi Linebaugh of Marceline and Meghan Hardman of Columbia.

Jay Nettesheim of Fenton, Donna McCluskey of Columbia and Katie Shackles of Lee's Summit completed the winner's circle, with awards of $1,000 each.

The presentations were made by John LaRocca, general manager of the University Club and Mid-Missouri Chapter president, and John Beverstein of Honeybaked Ham, Mid-Missouri Chapter treasurer.

The Missouri Restaurant Association, to which most Columbia and Mid-Missouri restaurants belong, administers to the needs of more than 1,600 members statewide. Its objectives are to enhance and improve member growth and development by assisting them in becoming more effective operators, and improving the political and social environment in which the industry conducts its business — for the benefit of patrons, employees, and communities served.
