Howard L. Pemberton, June 14, 1919 — May 8, 2012, formerly of Columbia

Howard L. Pemberton, 92, of Storm Lake, Iowa and formerly of Columbia, passed away Tuesday, May 8, 2012.

Visitation will be on Monday, May 14, 2012 from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. at Memorial Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be on Tuesday, May 15, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. at the funeral home. Interment will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery.

Howard was born June 14, 1919 in Hallsville to Clyde O. and Cleo E. (Bryan) Pemberton. He married Lucille Cox on March 28, 1942 in Columbia. She preceded him in death on April 23, 2001.

He married Ardys Heinshon on June 29, 2002 in Storm Lake, Iowa. She survives.

He served in the United States Army from 1942 to 1945 with the 90th Infantry. He received a Battle Field Commission, 2 Silver Stars, 1 Bronze Star and 2 Purple Hearts. He was employed by Riback Supply Company for 26 years.

He is survived by three sons, Lawrence Ray Pemberton, William Floyd Pemberton and Gary Lee Pemberton; three daughters, Brenda Kay Amend, Cheryl Ann Gysbers and Carol Jean Shafer; 14 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one brother, William G. Pemberton.
