Marion W. Sorenson had beloved wife, long teaching career

COLUMBIA — Marion Wesley Sorenson, Ph.D., of Columbia died Thursday, May 3, 2012, in his home. He was 85.

Dr. Sorenson was born Dec. 29, 1926, in Salt Lake City. He married Simone Rachel Chatelanat in 1948.

After graduating high school, Dr. Sorenson joined the U.S. Army. He met his wife while on leave in Switzerland. They were married for more than 50 years.

During his undergraduate career, Dr. Sorenson attended the University of Utah. He later received his doctorate degree at MU, where he was a professor of zoology for several years. During his tenure, he conducted research and frequently published his findings.

Dr. Sorenson is survived by three children, Chantal Sorenson, Michael Sorenson and Cindy Sutherland; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

His wife, Simone Sorenson, died in 2002.

A private burial was held at Olivet Christian Church Cemetery, 1991 S. Olivet Road.
