Missouri men's golfers off to good start at NCAA regional

Missouri men's golfers Jace Long and Emilio Cuartero are both in the upper part of the individual standings after the first round of play Thursday at the NCAA Bowling Green regional at The Club at Olde Stone in Bowling Green, Ky.

Long is in a 10-way tie for 18th place in the 75-player field after shooting a 2-over par 74, and Cuartero is in an 11-way tie for 35th with a 76.

UCLA leads the team standings, 10 strokes ahead of Chattanooga and Colorado State. The Bruins' Pedro Figueiredo and Memphis' Jonathan Fly lead the individual standings after both shooting 68s. UCLA's Patrick Cantlay is in third after shooting a 69.

Missouri did not qualify as a team, but Long and Cuartero are competing after earning at-large berths.

Second round play is set for Friday.
