COLUMBIA — Twila J. Stokes, 52, of Columbia, was pronounced dead at the scene of a two-vehicle accident at 7:15 a.m. Friday morning on Route B near Mount Zion Church Road.

Stokes was driving northbound on Route B with one passenger, 56 year-old Linda A. Raines of Helena, in a 2005 maroon Honda Accord, according to the police report. Maggie J. Schmidt, 26, of Thompson, was driving behind the Accord in a 1996 Ford van.

Stokes pulled onto the right shoulder of the road and then turned left to make a U-turn in front of Schmidt, according to the report. Schmidt's vehicle struck the driver's side of the Accord.

Raines was taken by ambulance to University Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, Boone County Fire Protection District Battalion Chief Gale Blomenkamp said.

Schmidt initially refused treatment at the scene but consented to be taken by ambulance to University Hospital, Blomenkamp said.
