Former Columbia councilwoman plans Memorial Day barbecue for veterans

Wednesday, May 23, 2012 | 4:36 p.m. CDT

COLUMBIA — Almeta Crayton, a former First Ward city councilwoman, is hosting a barbecue to celebrate Columbia's "forgotten" veterans at noon Monday.  The event will take place at her home, 409 Oak St., and welcomes all veterans who are unable to attend other Memorial Day events such as the air show.

This will be the third year Crayton has hosted an event of this sort.

Crayton welcomes the public to donate food such as hot dogs, hamburgers or refreshments for the event so she can provide the veterans with a free lunch. If you would like to donate, call 825-5263.

Supervising editor is Ann Elise Taylor.
