COLUMBIA — A 4-year-old Columbia boy was hit by a vehicle at Hy-Vee Gas at 405 E. Nifong Blvd. near South Providence Road on Thursday morning.

The boy walked out of the convenience store and into gas station's parking lot. The child was struck by an oncoming vehicle and went beneath the car, Columbia Police Department spokeswoman Latisha Stroer said.

Officers were dispatched at 9:38 a.m., Stroer said.

A Columbia Fire Department vehicle was driving westbound on Nifong Boulevard from a training session at the time of the incident, Fire Department Captain John Metz said. A bystander flagged the truck down.

The boy suffered minor scrapes but was taken by ambulance to University Hospital, Stroer said.

No mention of where the parent was or why in the world someone would let their 4 year old walk into a busy parking lot by them selves. I say charge the parent with negligence for this.
