COLUMBIA — A short pursuit followed a Missouri State Highway Patrol trooper's attempt to pull over a vehicle Thursday afternoon in Callaway County, according to a Highway Patrol press release.

The man then pulled into a driveway on County Road 259 and shot himself, according to the release.

The trooper initially tried to stop the man for traffic charges, but he refused to stop and the pursuit ensued, the release said.

The man was transported to University Hospital in Columbia with non-life threatening injuries. The incident is under investigation by the Patrol’s Division of Drug and Crime Control, the release said.

No other injuries were reported.
