COLUMBIA — The Charlie Atkins chapter of Veterans for Peace will hold a Memorial Day Peace Gathering on Monday to promote diplomacy as an alternative to war.

The event will be held at the Gordon Shelter in Stephens Lake Park. It will include a potluck picnic at 12:30 p.m. and a program at 1:30 p.m.

The program will feature speaker Jeff Stack, coordinator of the Mid-Missouri Fellowship of Reconciliation, who will address the importance of nonviolence. Veterans for Peace member Steve Jacobs will also perform anti-war ballads at the event.

Veterans for Peace is a national organization of veterans from different military branches committed to serving the cause of world peace, according to the group's official website.
