COLUMBIA — Almost half of the youth involved in the Columbia Swim Club have a sibling on the team. Coach Phil Garverick said that the club is strengthened by the sense of support and friendly competition that an abundance of families creates.
Hanna Flanagan and her teammates take to the pool in the early morning as part of the Columbia Swim Club at the Albert-Oakland Family Aquatic Center on Wednesday. Hanna along with her sister, Ellie Flanagan, swim with the Columbia Swim Club along with several other sets of siblings.

Levi will be entering Truman College in the fall, so will no longer be taking his brother, Nate, back and forth from swimming practice as much. “[I will miss him] sometimes and not really at other times,” said Nate Hanks.

“We run the same lane,” said Levi Hanks. “We goof off too much, we play tag and if one of us misses practice we harass each other about it”.

“They are competitive, and young,” said Valerie Wen, Brittany and Haley’s mother. “It’s a head game to have the younger person be faster than you,” “[But] they can laugh about it”.

“[Sometimes] my sister dances on the pool deck,” Kaylee Larson said. “It makes people laugh."
Kay and Sarah Rosenhauer, siblings, pose outside of the Albert-Oakland Family Aquatic Center on Wednesday. The two support each other as sisters, but Kay Rosenhauer said "It's goofy support, so you don't take it so seriously".
