James Martin Kroon traveled in 49 states, served in Air Force

COLUMBIA — James Martin Kroon of Columbia died Friday, May 25, 2012. He was 55.

Mr. Kroon was born Feb. 17, 1957, in Detroit, Mich., to John and Virginia (Ballor) Kroon.

He served in the Air Force for nearly 20 years, retiring with the rank of captain. Mr. Kroon worked as the director of clinical applications at MU from 1997 to 2003 before becoming the director of financial applications at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center from 2003 to 2006.

Mr. Kroon was an avid traveler. He visited 49 states, all except for Alaska, and was planning a motorcycle tour of Australia and Europe when he died.

In Columbia, he was a member of the Central Missouri Riders motorcycle club, the Columbia Walking and Hiking Club and Missourians for Ron Paul.

Mr. Kroon is survived by his girlfriend, Laura Ruth Tyler, of Columbia; his sons, James Kroon, Christopher Kroon, Lucas Kroon, John Kroon and Joseph Kroon; his daughters, Katherine McNeilly, Kelsey Kroon and Anna Kroon; his brothers, Mark Kroon, Joel Kroon and Jeffrey Kroon; his sister, Paula Ireland; and four grandchildren, Nicholas Heidy-McNeilly, Breanna Kroon, Caitlyn Kroon and Christopher Kroon Jr.

His brother John Kroon died earlier.

Visitation will befrom 12:30 to 2 p.m. Saturday at Carr-Yager Funeral Home, 204 N. Linn Ave., Fayette. Services will follow at 2 p.m. The Rev. Jamie Page will officiate.

Mr. Kroon’s burial with military honors will take place at Fayette City Cemetery.
