COLUMBIA — Jimmie Algiere loved his blue Chevy truck, painting and, above all, his family.
Jimmie W. Algiere of Columbia died Thursday, May 31, 2012. He was 71.
He was born May 3, 1941, in Columbia. Mr. Algiere worked at the University Hospital for over 20 years as a painter. He worked many side jobs and also served his country as a Marine.
“He was a very hard worker. He had three uniforms,” his daughter, Libby Algiere, said.
Working at the hospital was a way for Mr. Algiere to support his family while doing what he loved to do, Algiere said. He also loved carpentry.
“When I was little, we built a picnic table and, of course, he did majority of it,” Algiere said. “It was made from solid wood. He always did random carpentry projects.”
Mr. Algiere is survived by his daughter, Charissa "Libby" Elizabeth Algiere, of Columbia; his stepdaughter, Carla Brooner, of New York; three siblings, Thomas Albert Algiere, Linda Joyce Algiere, both of Columbia, and Virginia Newton, of Florida.
Services will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Jacksonville Veterans Cemetery, 1479 County Road 1675.
